American Pitcher Plant Sarracenia

The Pitcher plant is a temperate grower that requires a chilly winter dormancy.

They should be grown outdoors year-round. They thrive best with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight.

They can be grown in a sunny windowsill but should head outside from November to March so that they can take a nap. They are tolerant of light frost and the occasional freeze. In a cold snap you can keep them in an unheated garage exposed to light and immersed in at least 2” of water.

Cut back browning pitchers. Transplant once the growth points begin to crown the edge of the pot.

Recommended soil mix is available for purchase or make your own, 2:1 peat and perlite.
